Today, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) is an everyday plastic that is widely used due to its surface hardness, high impact resistance and good resistance to weathering, aging and chemicals: for example, as a deep-drawn part for housings of household and electrical appliances. Foil made of ABS can be punched, deep drawn, painted, printed, mechanically processed and glued.
Properties of ABS film
Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene or ABS in raw form is a colorless to gray or yellow solid. Compared to impact-resistant polystyrene (PS), for example, ABS generally has improved heat resistance, good aging resistance and mechanical strengths, such as high surface hardness and good impact resistance. In addition, there is good resistance to weathering and chemicals: ABS is insoluble in ethanol, mineral oils, oils and fats, diluted acids or alkalis.

Additional equipment from ABS film
ABS film can be manufactured with a variety of additional equipment. In this way, ABS foils can be given an antibacterial finish. Additives enable increased impact strength and UV stabilization. Additives can make ABS film flame retardant. ABS foils can be supplied with a protective foil on one or both sides. It is also possible to incorporate a different-colored identification strip into the extrusion of ABS film.

Bonding of ABS foils with adhesive tapes
3M VHB adhesive tapes are particularly suitable for bonding metal together with ABS film. These are suitable for connecting the same or different high-energy materials such as aluminum, steel and ABS (here medium-strength acrylate foam types 4930, 4950, 4912, 4959, 4945).
An adhesion promoter such as Primer 94 (3M) can further increase the bond strength on critical surfaces such as ABS film. 3M adhesive tapes with 360 series transfer adhesive are often used to assemble ABS plastic housings or ABS punched parts, as well as attaching decorative panels or nameplates.
