5 different black technical foils

Due to various technical requirements, customers want to use a black film in the manufacture of devices for optical reasons.

Our delivery program includes the following black technical foils:

  • Black polypropylene film
  • Black polycarbonate sheet
  • Black polyester film
  • Black polyimide film
  • Black polyetherimide film

Black polypropylene film

This is a black, flame-retardant polypropylene film that is characterized by very good dielectric strength and meets fire protection class UL94 V0.
Due to the easy deformability of the film, it is possible to enclose the entire electronics with a folded stamped part. This can also serve as protection against accidentally touching live parts. As a stamped part, black polypropylene film is characterized by the following properties:

  • good foldability
  • good punchability
  • great dimensional stability
  • very good dielectric strength
  • Fire protection class UL94 V0
  • Fulfillment of various standard requirements (including IEC950 / EN60950 and UL1959)
  • wide range of thicknesses
  • good tracking resistance

Black polypropylene film is used in battery pack insulation, computer case insulation, and optical applications as a light-tight cover. If this black film with z. B. laminated copper foil or aluminum foil, it can also be used as EMC / EMC shielding.

Black polycarbonate sheet

Black polycarbonate sheet is a black, one side fine matt, one side velvet flame retardant polycarbonate sheet with a UL94 V-0 listing at 0,250mm. This film has the following properties:

  • good formability
  • good punchability
  • excellent mechanical properties
  • good dimensional stability at high temperatures
  • high flammability class,

This makes it well suited for applications such as power supply insulation, hard drive insulation, power rail insulation, TV/monitor insulation, printed circuit board insulation, business equipment insulation, and EMI/RFI shielding when laminated with a metal foil.

Black polyester film

Black polyester films made from biaxially oriented polyester (boPET) are not only visually appealing, they also offer the highest optical densities.

These films have the following properties:

  • good punchability
  • good mechanical properties
  • different optical densities
  • FDA compliant

These types are also characterized by additional properties such as reduced flammability or a white surface. Black polyester film is used in the following applications: sun and privacy protection applications/blinds, pop-ups, electronic displays, adhesive tapes, electrical insulation applications, structural elements, furniture surfaces.

Black polyester films are available with different optical densities and different levels of flammability. In addition, according to EU law and FDA regulations, these films can also come into contact with food.

Black polyimide film

The black polyimide film exhibits an excellent balance of physical, chemical and electrical properties over a wide temperature range with excellent dimensional stability at elevated temperatures.

black polyimide film has the following properties:

  • good punchability
  • high temperature resistance
  • insulating or conductive

These properties make them ideal for use in many industrial applications where opacity, low reflectivity or aesthetics are required. Conductive carbon can also be loaded on black polyimide films to produce films with a surface resistance that renders them electrically conductive or static dissipative. Ideal for ESD or anti-static applications. The resistance property extends throughout the bulk of the foil so that it cannot be torn, rubbed off or otherwise easily damaged, as is often the case with surface coatings or metallization.

Black polyetherimide film

Black polyetherimide film is a high performance thermoplastic polyetherimide material. The combination of high
Temperature resistance, flame retardancy, low moisture absorption, and excellent dielectric properties make black polyetherimide films a good candidate for a variety of electrical and electronic applications. PEI film products are thermoformable and can be welded to a wide variety of materials.

Black polyetherimide films are characterized by the following properties:

  • good punchability
  • high temperature resistance
  • flame protection
  • low moisture absorption
  • excellent dielectric properties

Recently, black PEI film is increasingly being used as a print bed in 3D printing.

Processing of black technical foils

Stamped or molded parts can be produced from these black technical foils. In addition, these black foils can be coated using various processes. We can supply the foils coated with rubber, acrylate and silicone adhesive.
