Battery market is growing

The German battery market grew by a total of 2020 percent to 35 billion euros in 5,9, accelerating its growth compared to 2019. Lithium-ion batteries accounted for the largest share of the market at 3 billion euros. The segment grew by 63 percent compared to the previous year.

The market volume for lithium-ion batteries is due, among other things, to the rapidly growing imports of battery cells to Germany. While the majority of battery imports in 2019 came from Asia, Europe has caught up to Asia as an import region. At almost 3,8 billion euros, European battery imports are 79 percent higher than the previous year and account for 52 percent of the total import volume.

It is important to know that although most battery cells are imported to Germany, the manufacturers in this country use their special know-how to produce the complex battery systems from the cells.

The ongoing revision of European battery legislation will further strengthen the existing circular economy and sustainability of batteries.

In our article Materials for electrical and thermal insulation we present materials for the production of batteries and accumulators.
