What is IMDS

The IMDS (International material data system) is an archival and management system for the automotive industry. This forms the basis for material data sheets, in which all materials used and proportionate mixtures are listed. The material data sheet also records all necessary data that is necessary for the future recycling of the vehicle part. The IMDS was developed in cooperation with the companies Audi, BMW, Daimler-Chrysler, Ford, Opel, Porsche, Volkswagen and Volvo. Since then, other car manufacturers have joined this system. Automobile manufacturers and suppliers are bound by national and international laws, standards, norms and regulations when supplying data.
