Sabic Innovative Plastics is once again expanding its line of Lexan polycarbonate sheet products.
The three presented technical "Lexan" polycarbonate film types "HP92TTY", "6060" and "OQ8DA" are characterized by high optical quality and special functions for in-mold (IMD) decorative overlays in consumer electronics and automotive applications . They can also be punched, embossed and printed.

SABIC's Innovative Plastics business announces a significant expansion of its LEXAN™ polycarbonate (PC) portfolio with three new engineered LEXAN PC film grades to help customers in the consumer electronics and automotive industries meet increasing demands for lower cost, greater design freedom and higher performance to meet and comply with global environmental legislation. The new grades - LEXAN HP92TTY, LEXAN 6060 and LEXAN OQ8DA - offer excellent optical quality and special functions for decorative in-mold (IMD) overlays in the consumer electronics and automotive sectors. These additions to LEXAN's already leading product portfolio also demonstrate SABIC's continued investments in advanced technologies and demonstrate the company's relentless commitment to the technical needs, application development needs and business goals of customers and plastics converters worldwide.

New highly functional foils for more design freedom

The three new, highly functional LEXAN films offer new design options for IMD overlays and lenses. They can also be embossed and printed. LEXAN HP92TTY coated film for 2,5-dimensional molding has good chemical and abrasion resistance, is embossable and requires no post-curing. Ideal applications are IMD overlays for consumer electronics and automotive parts. LEXAN 6060 film for IMD overlays on 8D parts is printable and has high gloss and good light transmission with improved surface hardness. An application example is the housing of portable electronic devices. LEXAN OQXNUMXDA double coated film film offers excellent impact resistance and is printable. It can be used for lenses and keyboards of electronic devices.

Flame retardant products for electrical insulation

In addition to these new grades, SABIC will be showcasing its halogen-free, UL-compliant LEXAN EFR range of films. This eco-friendly translucent or opaque film offers bromine and chlorine free flame retardancy in various thicknesses. This enables electronic product suppliers to meet and exceed environmental regulations by voluntarily eliminating halogenated additives in their products while complying with the requirements of the EU Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE 2006) directives. fulfill.

Another highlight of the company's product range is the NORYL™ EFR735 film with halogen-free flame retardancy according to UL 94 V-0. Thanks to its higher hydrolytic stability and good coating and adhesive properties, this product could be used as a substrate on the back of photovoltaic elements, replacing polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film. In addition, thanks to its excellent chemical resistance to corrosive electrolyte solutions, this product could be used as an insulator in hybrid or electric vehicle batteries.

Enables advanced LED lighting and display technologies

SABIC offers a wide range of LEXAN ILLUMINEX™ sheeting with incorporated random lens surface textures and prismatic arrays. The diffuser films have excellent opacity, good light transmission and luminance, making them suitable for liquid crystal displays (LCD), portable devices such as smartphones and tablets, LED instrument displays and panels for ventilation and air conditioning, and LED lighting applications.

Available in monolithic thicknesses up to 500 µm, LEXAN films exhibit excellent optical quality and good dimensional stability at high temperatures. Various types can be printed and formed into 3D shapes.
