Light + Building will take place again in 2022 as scheduled
In view of the global situation caused by the corona pandemic and the associated event bans and travel restrictions, Messe Frankfurt, together with its partners - ZVEI and ZVEH - and the trade fair advisory board have agreed to suspend the 11th Light+ construction and as planned from 13. to 18. March 2022 to be carried out in Frankfurt am Main.
Due to the current corona crisis, the Light + Building 2020 originally planned for March was not possible. September to 2 October 2020. As a result, Messe Frankfurt, together with its partners, initiated appropriate measures to postpone the event as best as possible. After a reassessment of the current situation and ten weeks after the first postponement, planning and implementation are not guaranteed given the joint decision by the federal and state governments that major events in Germany may not take place until the end of August. Travel regulations and assembly bans play a central role in the organization of events of all kinds. It is the claim of the industry and also of the economy in general to carry out a leading international trade fair Light + Building appropriately in accordance with customer expectations, conception and service promises. Messe Frankfurt cannot currently guarantee this claim.
"The current requirements coupled with ongoing global travel restrictions and the possible risk to individual health will make it impossible to hold Light + Building in 2020," says Wolfgang Marzin. “At the same time, in the interest of exhibitors and visitors, we have to avert unnecessary costs at an early stage. The decision was not easy for any of us, but we are now concentrating on holding the next Light + Building as planned in 2022. “The decision also affects Intersec Building. As a platform for networked safety technology, the format will now celebrate its premiere in 2022 as an integral part of Light + Building.
"Light + Building is of particular importance for companies in the lighting and building technology sector - here the sectors with the latest technologies look far into the future. As much as we regret the cancellation, we also support it. In view of the many uncertainties and challenges, it was right to make this decision together and in a dialogue based on partnership," said ZVEI President Michael Ziesemer.
The chairman of the ZVEI professional association for electrical installation systems, Daniel Hager, adds: "In the current situation, we would have the positive, cooperative and innovative spirit that one sees on the
Light + Building has always been unable to experience. Everyone's head is somewhere else right now, and social distancing isn't appropriate at a trade show. That's why we should all look to the future: the trade fair should remain a beacon for the industry and an imaginative exchange platform. I am sure that with renewed energy we will be better positioned for the March 2022 event.”
Manfred Diez analyzes from the point of view of the ZVEI lighting association: “The lighting industry is a very innovative industry with many new products and technologies. The Light + Building is one of our most important instruments to show this to a broader public. In order for it to stay that way," continued the chairman of the professional association, we all have to pull together. ”
At the same time, ZVEH President Lothar Hellmann emphasized: “In the last 20 years, Light + Building has developed into 'the' information and technology platform for the industry. What makes the world's leading trade fair so indispensable is the intensive exchange. One important lesson learned from the Corona crisis is that despite all the possibilities of modern communication, there is no substitute for a face-to-face conversation. I am therefore looking forward to Light + Building 2022, where climate protection, electromobility and digitization will be an important focus
Holger Heckle also commented. The chairman of the VEG (Federal Association of Electrical Wholesalers) said: "We can fully understand the decision. It's really a pity for the electrical industry that Light + Building 2020 cannot take place and we have to do without our most important trade fair. But health comes first. "
So for 2020 it is important to breathe air across the industry in order to come back stronger - at Light + Building 2022.
