Sponge rubber

Sponge rubber is a cellular, soft-elastic material on the basis of caoutchouc.

During vulcanisation the material swells and forms a partially-opened, partially-closed cell structure as well as a surface with closed outer layer.

Sponge rubber products have high pressure elasticity and an especially good resilience. Even at light, short-timed pressure it is not possible for the air to leak from the porous inside.

The elastic resistance of the material against light and short-timed deformations is based on the back-pressure of the inner cell walls in combination with the compressed air. So it is elastic and tight (-pneumatic). The surfaces adapt immediately to all encircling walls and seal.

When the pressure is stronger and long-termed, the air searches a way out, partial through cross sections, partial through the surface layer.

The back-pressure has to be hold by the numerous cell walls. Because of this, sponge rubbers are made of especially nerved caoutchouc compositions.

The flexibility of the sponge rubber is determined by the selected caoutchouc types and the specific weight. We provide qualities with a specific weight between 0.4 and 0.8 g/cm³.

Sponge rubber products have a tight outer surface. This tight, soft outer surface prevents the entry of liquids and mostly avoids the adhesion to the opposite surface. Furthermore it grants a clean appearance and resistance against abrasion and wastage to the pieces.

Sponge rubber profiles are manufactured in metal plates with milled form slots or in profile pipes in different cross sections. In this case sharp-edged, dimensionally stable profiles with low tolerance (DIN 7715 middle-coarse) are manufactured. A different manufacture alternative are the open-cured profiles, these are not as dimensionally stable and have a compressed surface, so they do not have a strong firing skin.

Sponge rubber products are customised to each application by choosing suitable qualities. It can be selected from natural caoutchouc, neoprene, EPDM, silicone and Viton.
