Nomex® 800 material group extends the life of rotating machinery

The DuPont™ Nomex® 800 series was developed for rotating machinery in medium and high voltage applications as well as for applications with special fire protection requirements and helps to increase the reliability and service life of motors and generators.

The excellent thermal properties and mechanical strength of Nomex® 800 Series papers help prevent premature failure of rotating machinery – including medium and high voltage structures – operating under more demanding conditions such as partial discharge, extremely high temperatures and electrical loads .

Nomex® 800 Series papers are based on technology that enables higher dielectric strength and higher fire resistance for greater safety and longer life.

The Nomex® 800 Series is ideal for a variety of rotating machinery applications including: Inverter Driven Motors, Large Industrial Motors used in the Milling and Mining Industries, Wind Generators, Hydro Generators and Turbo Generators to name a few.

Nomex® 818 (previously 418)

Nomex® 818 (50% Mica) is designed for high voltage applications including: motor conductors and coil winding as well as transformer grounding and sheet insulation. It has a high residual voltage resistance (30 kV / mm [760 V/mil] to 40 kV / mm [1 V/mil]), but can also be impregnated with paint without any problems if required. Compared to Nomex® 015, Nomex® 410 offers increased dielectric strength.

Nomex® 818 is available in thicknesses from 0,08 mm (3 mil) to 0,25 mm (10 mil).

Nomex® 843S

Nomex® 843S is designed for high voltage applications to protect the outer corona, also known as conductive tape, on stator coils and bars in high voltage motors and generators and for use in high voltage cable insulation. It contains carbon fibers that allow the material to be electrically conductive. Nomex® 843S has high thermal resistance, good abrasion resistance and good mechanical strength. It is designed for a temperature class of up to 220 °C and can be optimized for impregnation with paint if required.

Nomex® 843 is only available in 0,05 mm (2 mil) thickness.

Nomex® 864 LAM

Nomex® 864 LAM was developed to meet the increasing demand for partial discharge resistance in insulation for inverter driven motors and to support the growing trend towards thinner insulation materials. This laminating quality paper is ideal for thin corona resistant groove liners.

Laminates based on Nomex® 864 LAM can offer greater resistance to voltage stresses encountered in inverter-driven motors or transformers associated with inverters. Common laminate structures based on Nomex® 864 LAM are type NMN and type NKN.

Nomex® 864 LAM is available in different thicknesses: 0,05 mm (2 mil) and 0,08 mm (3 mil).

For the production of slot insulation, deck sliders and phase insulation, we have NMN laminates in stock in thicknesses of 0,24, 0,30 and 0,36 mm.

Typical rotating machinery applications for the Nomex® 800 Series
