NOMEX 910 – ARAMID REINFORCED CELLULOSE PAPER

Structure of the aramid-reinforced cellulose paper Nomex 910

Nomex 910 is a unique aramid-reinforced cellulosic material made from high-quality electrical pulp and the same heat-resistant meta-aramid polymer binder as other Nomex papers. Because the product contains both cellulosic and Nomex aramid components, it has properties that are somewhere between pure Nomex aramid and cellulosic papers. Nomex 910 is available in a range from 0,08 to 1,0mm.

Applications of Nomex 910 aramid reinforced cellulose paper

Nomex 910 was developed as interlayer insulation in liquid-immersed transformers for distribution and small power transformers. It can also be used for wire wrapping (conductor insulation) in all transformers, including large power transformers.

Nomex® 910 is a unique aramid-reinforced cellulosic material made from high-quality electrical grade pulp and the same heat-resistant meta-aramid polymer binder as other Nomex® papers. The paper consists of a single compacted sheet with no additional binders or additives.

Properties of the aramid reinforced cellulose paper Nomex 910

Nomex 910 has excellent physical and electrical properties. It is suitable for medium temperature ranges in applications for which a standard kraft paper and a thermally finished kraft paper are not sufficient, but which do not yet require the high thermal class of a pure aramid paper.

dielectric strength
Testing of multiple plies in mineral oil according to ASTM D149 shows that Nomex® 910 has a higher AC breakdown voltage compared to thermally processed kraft paper

thermal aging
Long-term thermal aging tests in sealed tubes were performed in procedures specified in the IEEE Standard Test Procedure for Thermal Evaluation of Insulation Systems for Liquid-Immersed Distribution and Power Insulation systems for liquid-immersed distribution and
transformers (IEEE C57.100™ – 2011).

The tested performance:

  • Thermal Class 130 in mineral oil (based on test in representative mineral oil)
  • Thermal class 140 in ester liquids (based on testing in representative natural and synthetic natural and synthetic esters according to IEC 62770 and IEC 61099 respectively)

Processing of the aramid-reinforced cellulose paper Nomex 910

the dr Dietrich Müller GmbH processes rolls of the aramide-reinforced cellulose paper Nomex 910 into strips, cuts and stamped parts that are used in oil-cooled transformers.
