The 2nd VDI conference "Lifetime and Quality Assurance in LED Lighting" on June 26th and 27th, 2013 in Düsseldorf discussed the entire value chain from the package to the lamp.

Change in the lighting industry

The lighting industry is undergoing a technological change. European lighting manufacturers can still hold their ground in the competition with quality products. But Asian giants are already on the rise. What options are there to ensure optimal product quality? Experts will discuss these and other questions at the 2nd VDI conference "Lifetime and Quality Assurance in LED Lighting" on June 26th and 27th, 2013 in Düsseldorf. The organizer is the VDI Knowledge Forum.

Various specialist lectures

The conference will start with presentations on life cycle assessment and aging of mid-power LEDs, determination and modeling of HP-Ln LEDs. Lecturers from industry and research - including from Nichia, Osram, Philips as well as the TU Darmstadt and the LED Institute Dr. Slabke - speak in a panel discussion about their experiences with LED packages and explain how realistic the service life information is.

Other interesting lectures deal with thermal management and the influence of the assembly process on the lifespan of LEDs. Experts from BAG and Tridonic present the quality of electronic ballasts and the requirements for LED power supplies. One thematic block of the conference deals with the analysis of LED failures, failure mechanisms and risks as well as lifetime measurements of LED systems. In addition, representatives of the lighting industry will talk about the quality and reliability of LED light.

Special day for OLED

In addition to the presentation at the conference on June 25, 2013, there will be a special day on the topic of OLED in lighting. Here, experts discuss the current status of OLED technology and OLED applications in general lighting, in automobiles and in aircraft, as well as funding opportunities and development trends.
