NOMEX®

NOMEX® is a synthetic aromatic polyamide polymer (aramid), which is characterized by a particularly stable molecular structure.

This is responsible for the excellent dielectric, thermal, chemical and mechanical properties of NOMEX® and opens up NOMEX® products for a wide range of applications.

As surface insulating materials, NOMEX® Papers and pressboards have been used in transformers, motors, generators and other electrical devices for more than 35 years and have proven their overload capacity and high reliability even under extreme operating conditions.

NOMEX® Paper is made from two forms of the aramid polymer, the fibrids (as binding particles) and the flakes in a papermaking process (Type 411). In a second step, the NOMEX is compressed and crosslinked in a high-temperature calender® Papers (types 410, 414, E56, 418) reached.

thermal stability

Nomex is UL-approved (file number: E34739) for use in electrical machines at continuous operating temperatures of up to 220 °C, with the properties remaining almost unchanged even in continuous operation (UL 546 B).

For short periods (over hours), machines insulated with Nomex can also be operated at significantly higher temperatures.

Hardly inflammable, self-extinguishing

NOMEX® Aramid paper products do not melt and with a LOI (Limited Oxygen Index) value of over 20,8 at 220°C (the critical value for combustion in normal air) they do not support the combustion process (UL 94 VO).

High mechanical stability (tensile strength, rigidity, resistance to tearing and tear propagation, flexural stability)

Inherent dielectric strength: Nomex allows short-term stresses of 18 to 40 kV/mm without further treatment with paints or resins

Chemical resistance: NOMEX® is exceptionally resistant to acids and alkalis and is compatible with all types of paints, adhesives, transformer fluids, lubricating oils and coolants.

Low temperature properties: Due to its unique polymer structure, NOMEX® used in a variety of cryogenic applications.

Aramid paper insulating tubes

From Nomex® 410 we wrap tubing which can then be used to insulate studs or connectors.

These insulating sleeves can be manufactured in a wide variety of diameters.
