PEN - foil

Polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) resin became popular in various fields after US company Amoco Chemicals began commercial production of naphthalene dicarboxylic acid (NDC), a raw material of PEN, in 1995.

In 1964, 31 years earlier, Teijin started developing PEN and launched it as Teonex®. Since then, Teonex® has been popular as a functional material for industrial parts and packaging materials for food and medicine, and the area of application is constantly expanding.

Teonex® is a crystalline thermoplastic polyester, a polycondensate of NDC as the acid component and ethylene glycol as the glycol component, produced in a process similar to that of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), a typical polyester.

The property of Teonex® is considered better than that of PET.

Teonex® is a crystalline, slow-crystallizing resin that facilitates the formation of transparent molded products.

Teonex® has superior chemical and scratch resistance compared to polycarbonate (PC), a typical polymer used in transparent molded products.

Teonex is also processed into films.

What is Teonex® Q51?

Teonex® Q51 is a biaxially oriented PEN film (polyethylene naphthalate film) with low haze. The film has excellent properties such as very good mechanical strength, good physical properties, low moisture absorption, high dielectric strength and good heat and cold properties. It is also resistant to common solvents.

Teonex® Q51 polyethylene naphthalate film has increased temperature resistance compared to standard PET films, which means that it is listed as a class F (155°) insulating material. In addition, the PEN film meets the UL 94 VTM-2 standard and is RoHS-compliant according to 2011/EU.

Areas of application for Teonex® Q51

Teonex® Q51 is used in the construction of electric motors and in the manufacture of transformers, where it is used as an insulating layer.

Delivery forms of Teonex Q51

Teonex® Q51 has a roll width of up to 1.000 mm and is manufactured in graded thicknesses from 12 µm to 250 µm.

Further processing of Teonex® Q51 – PEN film

Teonex® Q51 can be further processed very well. We can manufacture laminates, adhesive tapes, rolled goods and die-cut parts from this PEN film.

Stamped parts from PEN film

PEN film can be processed with all existing punching techniques. Punched parts made from PEN film can be delivered as individual parts, on a roll, in magazines and stacked.

Adhesive tapes can also be made from PEN film. Like polyester film, the film can be easily feathered, so that feathered PEN film can also be supplied.
