Sonophan PEI is heat resistant, inherently flame retardant, self-extinguishing and electrically insulating.

Heat-resistant, inherently flame-retardant, self-extinguishing and electrically insulating is the Dr. Dietrich Müller GmbH from Ahlhorn in Lower Saxony. It is based on Sabic's polyetherimide and can be manufactured in various thicknesses (5 µm to 50 µm).

One of the most important characteristics of Sonophane PEI is its heat resistance. It can withstand temperatures up to 260 degrees Celsius without affecting its mechanical properties. This makes it ideal for applications where high temperatures are prevalent, such as in the automotive and aerospace industries.

Another important feature of Sonophan PEI is its inherent flame safety. This means the material is inherently flame retardant and contains no flame retardants. This makes it particularly safe for applications where there is a risk of fire, such as in electrical engineering.

Sonophan PEI is also self-extinguishing and electrically insulating. Self-extinguishing means that once the material catches fire, it will extinguish itself without the need for an external extinguishing measure. This increases safety in applications where there is a risk of fire.

Electrically insulating means the material does not conduct electricity, making it ideal for electrical engineering applications.

Sonophan PEI can be manufactured in various thicknesses, from 5 µm to 50 µm. This makes it possible to adapt the material for a wide range of applications and to achieve the desired mechanical properties.

Versatile application possibilities of Sonophan PEI

The film is suitable for applications in electrical engineering and electronics, in vehicle and aircraft construction and in medical technology.

The product can be used, for example, as a membrane film in smartphone speakers and microphones, where it can withstand strong dynamic loads. This use as a loudspeaker film is one of the main areas of application for the Sonophane film.

The mechanical properties in the longitudinal and transverse direction are almost identical, the Sonophan film can also be deep-drawn and is suitable for use in electrically insulating deep-drawn parts, deep-drawn products and insulating tapes, as a carrier film for adhesive tapes and base film for capacitors, wound contacts, elastic printed circuit board applications and strips.

The foil is available in a thickness range of 0,006 to 0,050 mm in a width of currently 500 mm.

Further processing of Sonophan PEI film

The Dr. Dietrich Mueller GmbH offers not only pure film, but also further processing. The foil can be coated, metalized, cut, formed and punched.
