The IMDS (International Material Data System) is an archival- and management system of the automotive industry. This forms the base for material data sheets which states all used materials and proportionated compounds. The material data sheet also registers all required data which are necessary for the future recycling of the vehicle part. The IMDS was developed in cooperation of the companies Audi, BMW, Daimler-Chrysler, Ford, Opel, Porsche, Volkswagen and Volvo. Since that time more automotive manufacturers have joined this system. Automotive manufacturers and sub-contractors are bound to national and international laws, standards, norms and prescriptions for the delivery of data.
