Intec 2013 with a special show for processing new materials

Ahlhorn | 14.02.2013

The processing of new materials, one of the key topics in production technology, is available from 26. February to 1. March 2013 in the spotlight of the Leipzig mechanical engineering fair Intec.

As part of a special show “Processing new types of materials and composite materials”, exhibitors from research and practice will show how, for example, fiber composite materials can be processed in series production in an energy- and resource-efficient manner.

The Leipziger Messe was able to win over the Institute for Lightweight Construction and Plastics Technology of the TU Dresden and the regional department CC Ost of Carbon Composites eV for the technical coordination.

In 2013, intec, one of the leading trade fairs for production technology and machine tool construction, will take place for the fifth time in combination with the Z supplier fair in Leipzig.

Today, modern fiber composite materials are mainly used in aviation, vehicle construction and alternative energies. In the case of electric vehicles in particular, they are playing an increasingly important role. The increased use of lighter materials and structural designs in mass production therefore places completely new demands on machine tool and tool construction as well as production and manufacturing technology.

“There is still a lot of development potential in the processing of materials in series production,” explains Professor Werner Hufenbach, Director of the Institute for Lightweight Construction and Polymer Technology (ILK) at the TU Dresden and specialist coordinator of the special show. “More than 50 percent of the current production costs of high-performance fiber composites could be saved if we continue to optimize strategies and processes in production.”

The special show at intec sheds light on the subject from different perspectives. The ILK of the TU Dresden and the Institute for Machining of the TU Dortmund present current research results and pioneering cooperation projects with industry.

At the same time, well-known companies that have distinguished themselves in the practical use of modern materials will introduce themselves. On the user side, Schmuhl Faserverbundtechnik GmbH & Co. KG Liebschütz presents the cabin structure of a vehicle crane in GRP-CFRP construction. Mitras Composites Systems GmbH shows the production of sophisticated technical plastic parts, which are representative of a multitude of possible applications from electromobility to medical and laboratory technology. With technologies for the finishing of fiber composites, Hufschmied Zerspanungssysteme GmbH is on site with drills and milling cutters for CFRP / FRP processing. There are also innovative tool solutions from LEUKA, the MAPAL Dr. Kress KG and Gühring OHG.

The intec special show will take place in Hall 3 during the trade fair. In addition to the exhibits on the special exhibition area, the “Processing of Novel Materials and Material Compounds” will take place on 28. February also presented in a special thematic block in the exhibitor forum in hall 5. Further information at www.messe-intec.de/sonderschau/

Information on intec and Z

At the start of the year, the trade fair double is the first important indicator and industry meeting point for the metalworking and processing industry in Europe. At Intec, the focus is on machine tools and special machines as well as a production technology. At the “Z – Die Zuliefermesse”, visitors can expect semi-finished products, components, modules, and technologies, primarily for vehicle and mechanical engineering.
