Intec 2013 with special show

Ahlhorn | 14.02.2013

The processing of new materials, one of the key topics in production technology, will be the focus of attention at the Leipzig engineering trade fair intec from 26 February to 1 March 2013.
As part of a special show entitled “Processing of Novel Materials and Composite Materials”, exhibitors from research and practice will show how fibre composites, for example, can be processed in series production in an energy and resource-efficient manner.

The processing of new materials, one of the key topics in production technology, will be the focus of the Leipzig engineering fair intec from 26 February to 1 March 2013.

As part of a special show entitled “Processing of Novel Materials and Composites”, exhibitors from research and practice will show how fibre composites, for example, can be processed in series production in an energy and resource-efficient manner.

Leipziger Messe has been able to enlist the services of the Institute for Lightweight Construction and Plastics Technology at TU Dresden and the CC Ost regional department of Carbon Composites e.V. for the technical coordination.

intec, one of the leading trade fairs for production technology and machine tool building, will be held for the fifth time in 2013 in combination with the Z subcontracting fair in Leipzig.

Modern fibre composite materials are used today primarily in aviation, vehicle construction and alternative energies. They are playing an increasingly important role, especially in electric vehicles. The increased use of lighter materials and structural designs in mass production therefore places completely new demands on machine tool and tool construction as well as production and manufacturing technology.

“In mass production, there is still a lot of development potential in the processing of materials,” explains Professor Werner Hufenbach, Director of the Institute for Lightweight Structures and Plastics Technology (ILK) at TU Dresden and technical coordinator of the special show. “More than 50 percent of the current production costs of high-performance fibre composites could be saved if we further optimise strategies and processes in production”.

The special show at intec illuminates the topic from various perspectives. For example, the ILK at the TU Dresden and the Institute for Machining Technology at the TU Dortmund University will present current research results and pioneering cooperation projects with industry.

At the same time, renowned companies that have made a name for themselves in the practical use of modern materials will be presenting themselves. On the user side the Schmuhl Faserverbundtechnik GmbH & Co. KG Liebschütz presents the cabin structure of a mobile crane in GFK-CFK construction. Mitras Composites Systems GmbH will show the production of sophisticated technical plastic parts, which are representative for a multitude of possible applications from electric mobility to medical and laboratory technology. Hufschmied Zerspanungssysteme GmbH will be on site with technologies for the final processing of fiber composites, including drills and cutters for CFRP/FRP processing. Innovative tool solutions from LEUKA, MAPAL Dr. Kress KG and Gühring OHG are also available.

The intec special show will take place during the trade fair in Hall 3. In addition to the exhibits in the special show area, “Machining of new materials and material composites” will also be presented on 28 February in a special thematic block in the exhibitor forum in Hall 5. Information about intec and Z

At the start of the year, the trade fair duo is the first important indicator and meeting point for the metalworking and metal processing industry in Europe. At intec, the focus is on machine tools and special machines as well as production technology. At “Z – Die Zuliefermesse”, visitors can expect to see semi-finished products, components, modules and technologies primarily for vehicle and machine construction.
