Light + Building will take place again in 2022

In view of the global situation caused by the corona pandemic and the associated event bans and travel restrictions, Messe Frankfurt, together with its partners – ZVEI and ZVEH – as well as the trade fair advisory board, agreed that the 11. To suspend Light + Building and, according to schedule, from 13th to 18th March 2022 to be carried out in Frankfurt am Main.

Due to the current corona crisis, the Light + Building 2020 originally planned for March was not possible. September to 2. To postpone October 2020. As a result, Messe Frankfurt, together with its partners, initiated appropriate measures in order to postpone the event in the best possible way. After a renewed assessment of the current situation and ten weeks after the first postponement, in view of the joint decision by the federal and state governments that major events may not take place in Germany until at least the end of August, planning and implementation are not guaranteed. Travel regulations and assembly bans play a central role in the implementation of events of all kinds. It is the requirement of the industry and also of the economy in general to carry out a leading international trade fair Light + Building in an appropriate manner in accordance with customer expectations, conception and service promises. Messe Frankfurt cannot currently guarantee this claim.

“The current requirements paired with ongoing global travel restrictions and the potential risk to individual health will make it impossible to hold Light + Building in 2020,” notes Wolfgang Marzin. “At the same time, in the interests of exhibitors and visitors, we have to avert unnecessary costs at an early stage. The decision was not an easy one for all of us, but we are now focusing our energies on holding the next Light + Building as scheduled in 2022. ”The decision also affects Intersec Building. As a platform for networked security technology, the format will now celebrate its premiere as an integral part of Light + Building in 2022.

“Light + Building is of particular importance for companies in the light and building technology sector – here the industries look far into the future with the latest technologies. As much as we regret the cancellation, we also support it. In view of the various uncertainties and challenges, it was right to make this decision now together and in a partnership-based dialogue, ”said ZVEI President Michael Ziesemer.

The chairman of the ZVEI Electrical Installation Systems Association, Daniel Hager, adds: “In the current situation we would have the positive, collaborative and innovative spirit that the
Light + Building has always been something that you cannot experience. Everyone’s head is somewhere else right now, and social distance doesn’t go well with a trade fair. That is why we should all look ahead: The trade fair should continue to exist as a beacon for the industry and as an imaginative exchange platform. I am sure that with new energy we will have a better starting position for the event in March 2022. ”

Manfred Diez analyzes from the perspective of the ZVEI light association: “The lighting industry is a very innovative branch with many new products and technologies. Light + Building is one of our most important instruments for showing this to a broader public. In order for it to stay that way, ”the chairman of the professional association continued,“ we all have to pull together. ”

At the same time, ZVEH President Lothar Hellmann emphasized: “Over the past 20 years, Light + Building has developed into ‘the’ information and technology platform in the industry. What makes the world’s leading trade fair so indispensable is the intensive exchange. An important experience of the Corona crisis is that the personal conversation, despite all the possibilities of modern communication, cannot be replaced by anything. I am therefore looking forward to Light + Building 2022, where climate protection, electromobility and digitization will be an important focus

Holger Heckle also commented. The chairman of the VEG (Federal Association of Electrical Wholesalers) said: “We can fully understand the decision. It is really unfortunate for the e-industry that Light + Building cannot take place in 2020 and that we will have to do without our most important trade fair. But health comes first. ”

So for 2020 it is important to breathe industry-wide air in order to come back all the stronger – at Light + Building 2022.
