MATERIAL

ARYPHAN ® is made of polyarylate (PAR). Polyarylate is a high-performance plastic with significantly higher notched impact strength than other amorphous thermoplastics with comparable heat resistance, even at low temperatures. Depending on the structure of the production, the film can be manufactured with a matt (EM) or glossy (GL) surface. The film is produced in standard thicknesses of 5 μm to 150 μm, other thicknesses can be offered on request.

MECHANICAL PROPERTIES

ARYPHAN ® has a very high tear and tear propagation resistance and is break and splinter resistant. The good mechanical load-bearing capacity is reflected in the high tear strength and elongation at tear. Compared to polycarbonate films, ARYPHAN ® scores particularly well in terms of low-temperature toughness. Due to the manufacturing process, the mechanical properties are almost identical in the longitudinal and transverse directions. ARYPHAN ® has very good thermoforming properties.

THERMAL PROPERTIES

ARYPHAN ® has a glass transition temperature of up to 193 °C and a heat distortion temperature of up to 175 °C (at 1.8 MPa).

OPTICAL PROPERTIES

ARYPHAN ® absorbs light in the near UV range below 360 nm. In the visible light range, transmission increases to values around 90%. Most ARYPHAN ® films have a matt structure on one side and therefore show light refraction.

ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES

ARYPHAN ® has excellent electrical insulating properties. These are hardly affected by the moisture content of the material due to the very low moisture absorption.

 

CHEMICAL PROPERTIES

ARYPHAN ® is resistant to oils, greases, benzines, aliphatic hydrocarbons and most alcohols. ARYPHAN ® is not resistant to chlorinated hydrocarbons, ketones, aromatic solvents and bases. In these substances the film is attacked or dissolves.

 

FIRE BEHAVIOUR

ARYPHAN ® is already flame retardant due to its molecular structure. Specially treated types even meet the VTM-0 standard.

 

WATER ABSORPTION

Due to the low moisture absorption of about 0.2 %, the film remains dimensionally stable, so that the film properties are hardly affected.

 

RADIATION RESISTANCE

ARYPHAN ® absorbs light in the near UV range below 360 nm. The film therefore has inherent UV protection and excellent UVC resistance. UV irradiation shifts the UV absorption further towards 400 nm, so that the inherent UV protection is even enhanced. The film turns a slightly yellowish colour. ARYPHAN ® is also very resistant to beta and gamma radiation.

Further processing of Aryphan

ARYPHAN ® is thermoformable and can be coated with common high vacuum processes. The film can be easily bonded using selected solvents, solvent-based adhesives and dispersion adhesives as well as the hot melt process.

Stamped parts, tapes and rolls can also be produced well from this polyarylate film.
