Solarpeq is the new top event in the solar industry. The trade fair for solar production technology takes place parallel to the world’s leading trade fair glasstec and offers an international forum for all those who offer or want to buy machines for the production and processing of silicon, wafers, solar cells and modules.
More than 250 exhibitors from over 30 countries came to the first event in September/October 2010 to present their products. A total of more than 55,000 trade visitors are expected at solarpeq and glasstec.
On 22 and 23 October 2012 the conference “solar meets glass – 3rd Industry Summit for Markets, Costs and Technology” will take place for the third time at the Congress Center Ost at the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre.
glasstec/solarpeq 2012: Conference Solar meets Glass is establishing itself
New edition in cooperation with Solarpraxis and OTTI in October 2013
The conference “solar meets glass – 3rd Industry Summit for Markets, Costs and Technology”, which took place on 22 and 23 October within the framework of glasstec/solarpeq, came to a successful conclusion with more than 130 participants. The experts from the glass and solar industry expressed their great satisfaction with the opportunity for personal exchange on their interface topics within the framework of the unique combination of glasstec as the leading international trade fair for the glass industry and the parallel solarpeq, which presents solar production equipment. Particularly in the current tense economic situation in the solar industry, increasing efficiency and reducing production costs is essential for the industry. The glass industry, in turn, has know-how that can contribute to achieving this goal through appropriate solutions.
In addition to a market and technology overview of photovoltaics, “solar meets glass” therefore focused on the topics of production technology, efficiency as well as material and costs relating to PV glass. The presentations here focused on topics such as (ultra-) thin glass, differences between float and rolled glass in PV applications or advances in anti-reflective coatings for solar cover glasses. Also on the agenda were trends, new markets and technologies around building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) and recycling of PV modules. The newly included topic of the (re)recycling of solar modules, which was organised in cooperation with the bvse – Bundesverband Sekundärrohstoffe und Entsorgung (Federal Association for Secondary Raw Materials and Waste Disposal) and the Glass Technology Forum of the Verband Deutscher Maschinen und Anlagenbauer (VDMA – German Engineering Federation), also met with a good response.
New partner OTTI
From 2013, the East Bavarian Technology Transfer Institute e.V. (OTTI) will contribute to “solar meets glass” in terms of content and organisation. With the merger of the two established events “solar meets glass” and “Glass and Solar” (previously organised by OTTI), a comprehensive and targeted specialist conference will be created which will tap into the synergies and interfaces of the glass and solar sectors. The cooperation between Messe Düsseldorf, Solarpraxis AG and OTTI as a new partner promises a further increase in content and organisational competence. While retaining the title “solar meets glass”, the high-calibre expert panel will develop a programme that integrates current scientific contributions and topics of direct relevance to the economy.
“We are delighted to have won OTTI as a partner for ‘solar meets glass’. The expertise and contacts of such a renowned organiser in the field of technology and renewable energies are an ideal complement that further underpins our high quality standards”, says Hans Werner Reinhard, Deputy Managing Director of Messe Düsseldorf.
The date of the upcoming “solar meets glass” is 09 and 10 October 2013 and the conference will be held in Düsseldorf.

Conference Solar meets Glass brings the glass and solar industry together again at glasstec/ solarpeq 2012
Focus on markets, cost reduction, efficiency increase and PV recycling
On 22 and 23 October 2012 the conference “solar meets glass – 3rd Industry Summit for Markets, Costs and Technology” will be held for the third time in the Congress Center East at the Düsseldorf Exhibition Center. One day before glasstec, the world’s most important trade fair for the glass industry, and solarpeq, its sister event for solar production technology, experts from the glass and solar industries will discuss their interface topics here. The aim of “solar meets glass” is to enable the professional exchange of ideas between the two sectors in this unique environment worldwide in order to show the glass industry new sales opportunities and to give impetus to the solar industry in the race for higher efficiency and cost reduction.
The conference programme is organised by Messe Düsseldorf in cooperation with Solarpraxis AG, one of the leading conference providers in the field of renewable energies, and is aimed at producers of thin-film and crystalline photovoltaics, solar system integrators and manufacturers of mounting systems for PV. Suppliers of automation technology, glass manufacturers, system suppliers of glass applications and glass mounting systems as well as suppliers of the glass and solar industry are also addressed.
The selection of top-level speakers takes into account both the glass and PV industry as well as the supplier and customer side in order to comprehensively cover the current topic complexes. In addition to a market and technology overview of photovoltaics, the first day of the conference will focus on production technology, efficiency, materials and costs of PV glass. The presentations here will focus on topics such as (ultra-) thin glass, differences between float and rolled glass in PV applications, and advances in anti-reflective coatings for solar cover glasses. Subsequently, a top-class discussion panel will be set up for a targeted technical exchange on the conference topics.
The second day of “solar meets glass” will be structured around two central thematic blocks: Trends, new markets and technologies around building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) and recycling of PV modules. The topic of (re)recycling of solar modules is offered as an option and will be comprehensively illuminated in two blocks in cooperation with the bvse – Bundesverband Sekundärrohstoffe und Entsorgung (Federal Association for Secondary Raw Materials and Waste Disposal) and the Forum Glastechnik of the Verband Deutscher Maschinen und Anlagenbauer (VDMA) (German Engineering Federation). The first block deals with the requirements for collection and recycling of PV modules, while the second focuses on processing and recycling for the recovery of raw materials. In the afternoon of the second day, the participants of “solar meets glass” will visit glasstec and solarpeq to conclude the conference.
The price for participation in “solar meets glass” is 595 euros. Until 1 September 2012 there is an early bird special of 495 euros. The fee includes a 2-day ticket for visiting glasstec/solarpeq and the solarpeq trade fair catalogue. The conference language is English. The recycling session of the bvse can also be booked separately for 60 Euro. Here the conference language is German with simultaneous translation into English. The complete conference programme and further information is available at www.solarpeq.de.
