That IMDS (International Material Dthey System) is an archive and administration system of the automotive industry, on the basis of which a material data-sheet is created, in which all materials used and proportionate substance components are named for the component in question, as well as all data required for the subsequent recycling of the vehicle part.

The IMDS was developed jointly by Audi, BMW, Daimler-Chrysler, Ford, Opel, Porsche, Volkswagen, and Volvo. Other automobile manufacturers have since joined this system.
