GRP profiles for various areas of application

GRP (glass fiber reinforced plastic) profiles are a type of plastic profiles that are made from a combination of glass fibers and a thermoplastic material. They are widely used in the electrical engineering industry, especially for electric motors and transformers.

GRP profiles have high rigidity and strength, which makes them ideal for electrical engineering applications. They can withstand high loads and also have excellent chemical resistance, which protects them from damage caused by moisture, acids and alkalis.

GRP profiles also have excellent electrical insulation, which makes them ideal for insulating electrical conductors in electric motors and transformers. They can also withstand high temperatures and have low thermal expansion, making them ideal for applications in harsh environments.

GRP profiles are also lightweight and easy to machine, allowing them to be incorporated into a wide variety of applications and designs, allowing for more flexible product design.

Overall, GRP profiles are an important material in the electrical engineering industry due to their high rigidity and strength, excellent chemical resistance and electrical insulation, and their heat resistance. They are commonly used in electric motors and transformers.

An extensive range of different GRP standard profiles enables use in many areas of application. the dr Dietrich Müller GmbH mainly supplies profiles that are used as insulating profiles in all areas of electrical engineering.

Reinforcement of the GRP profiles

In principle, all GRP profiles are cross-reinforced with glass fiber mats. Longitudinal forces are absorbed by rovings (unidirectional glass fibres), which are arranged in the core of the profiles. The profiles are equipped with a surface fleece for improved UV and weather resistance.

Manufacturing process for GRP profiles: pultrusion

The pultrusion process is a continuous manufacturing process in which reinforcing fibers (we focus on glass fibres) are impregnated with a thermosetting resin. Polyester and epoxy resin systems are used as resin systems in our production.

The glass fibers impregnated in the resin are fed to the heated tool according to the profile geometry. Curing takes place in the tool.

The GRP profile is pulled continuously through the tool with a trigger and cut to size with a saw.

It is also possible to roughen the surface of the GRP profiles with a tear-off fabric to increase the bondability.

Machined parts from GRP profiles

Of course you can also buy machined parts made of GRP profiles from us. These can then be used as ready-to-install insulating parts.
